In Memoriam: June August

June Marie August died peacefully on October 25, 2021 at 84 years of age. For 30 of those years, June worked as a part-time receptionist at CMA’s Colonial Auto Center where she was loved by our team and by the feral cats she fed around the dealership. She was well known at the local SPCA.

Born January 5, 1937 in Esmont, Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Maude Mayo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert August.

At eighteen, she became an insurance agent and did not retire until she was in her 70s. Even after retirement, she continued as evening receptionist for CMA.

June is survived by her daughters, Cathy Chaplin (Harry), Karen Watters, and Vickie Mawyer (Montie); six grandchildren, Tyler, Casey, August, Kenny, Hunter, and Kelly; and four great-grandchildren, Brantley, Madison, Kymberlyn and Leeanna. The family would like to thank the staff at Gordon House and Hospice of the Piedmont.

June’s service is at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 1, 2021, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville, with the Rev. Joel Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Masks are required at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, caspca.org or to Hospice of the Piedmont, hopva.org.
