Green Team Meeting Recap!

Thank you to Courtney Powel for recapping our most recent Green Team meeting and the topics we discussed!

1.Where is our recycling going when it leaves CMA’s locations and are our recycling partners handling it properly? How fun to follow a recyclable item….the day in the life? Matt Dudley is working on scheduling a tour at one of our local plants and putting together a list of vendors offering single stream recycling

2. Where are tires going after they are picked up from our dealerships?
Courtney Powell brought up this topic and is currently working with ATD to start recycling tires sustainably. Mike Kruse mentioned that our current vendor Tire Solutions is shredding the tires that can’t be resold and the pieces being shipped to Africa for fuel. Courtney is working to find a vendor that will recycle tires to be turned into mulch for playgrounds, etc.

3. We watched a great video about “Gorilla Gardening” and the impact it’s making on the environment and the community.
The San Francisco couple showed us how they spread wildflower seeds around bare spots of land all over their community. The wildflowers are a mix of seeds that are all native pollinators for their specific area. By spreading these seeds around our dealerships and communities we will be helping encourage more wildlife and insects to come and pollinate these flowers. Wildflowers play a huge part in helping our ecosystem thrive and attract the American bumblebee whose numbers are steadily declining.

4. Tammy Banning shared a beautiful story about growing up and her father teaching her about gardening and instilling her love for growing. She also mentioned the importance of sharing those skills with your own kids and getting away from the screens more.

5. Judi Anderson mentioned that during Drive electric Week, CMA’s Richmond Dealerships are hosting an EV ride and drive event at the reconditioning center in Chester.
