Congratulations to Jennie Lockett on Being CMA’s 2023 Green Action Team Champion!

A sincere thank you to all our Green Action Team members who worked very hard this past year to make an impact as we worked diligently together to lessen our carbon footprint and be leaders in sustainability.

EXCITING NEWS!

Last spring, we announced a friendly competition to the green team members where each would have the opportunity to nominate one member to be voted on at the close of 2023 for their efforts in promoting sustainability, the winner earning a trip to 1 Hotel Nashville. On this trip, this lucky person will be tasked with researching and reporting back on the sustainable practices that set Hotel One apart from other businesses.

This was a very tight race, but we had to pick one. We are very proud to announce that this year’s Green Action Team Champion is Jennie Lockett from CMA’s Colonial Honda, as we feel she made the biggest impact this year based on the criteria listed below that we discussed last March:

  • Helped to increase awareness of our efforts across CMA.
  • Encouraged engagement with associates.
  • Posted green team blog updates or educational info on CMAPeople
  • Launched at least one new initiative at their dealership or in their market.
  • Ensured their Dealership is enrolled in certified programs if available.
  • Set clear non-negotiables and expectations.
  • Created monthly dealership communications.
  • Held 30-minute monthly meetings with the general manager.

Ed Nicol confirmed that Jennie mentions green team efforts in all staff meetings, leads all green team efforts on the campus, regularly recruits associates for projects and she puts visual updates in campus breakrooms. Jennie has taken on creating a meadow at the buying center as her most recent green team project. CMA’s Colonial Honda is enrolled in certified program.  Jennie sets clear non-negotiables, setting expectations. She not only creates monthly dealership communications but goes to the next level by creating them weekly. Jennie discusses projects and ideas 2-3 times a month!

A day in the life of Jennie:  She finds herself inspecting the dumpster areas at Honda daily, policing the water bottles and Styrofoam cups that occasionally make it into their building.  On any given day there are cardboard boxes and ink cartridges that fill up the back of her Subaru.  Jennie says that CMA’s green team has helped her to look at what we they are doing and CMA’s Colonial Honda and helping her to be aware of the potential what can be done.

If you ask her, she says: “My biggest wins this year are the Owner’s Pavilion and the Meadow project. The fact that Liza, Pete, and Ed allowed me to prep and plant this area without using chemicals that are harmful to the environment and our owners means the world to me. This project has involved planning, physical work and explaining why a car company should plant flowers.”  To sum it all up, Jennie has found a way for CMA to allow her to dig into the dirt, professionally speaking. “What could be better than that?” Jennie says.  Congratulations Jennie and thank you for all you do.

As for 2024? Jennie says that an owner’s community garden is in the works and showings of a new documentary “Common Ground.” “The point is that we get to do these things instead of have to.” She intends to post and communicate more on what she is doing to create awareness across all of CMA and outside to our customers and community.
