Lower Your Risk, Boost Your Health: All About Cholesterol

Did you know high cholesterol can significantly increase your risk of heart disease? While your body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells, too much can lead to serious health problems.

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood. It’s important for your body’s function, but high levels can raise your risk for heart attack and stroke.

When to See Your Provider

It’s recommended that children start getting their first cholesterol screening around age 9-11. If there is a familial risk, then testing is recommended for a child as early as age 2.  Otherwise, doctors typically check cholesterol levels as part of annual well visits.
