CMA’s Green Action Team met last week to discuss plans for National Recycling Day on November 15th. The question was asked – “What can we do at our dealerships to celebrate this day?”
Our plan is to have lunch at each dealership with biodegradable plates, cups, and flatware. At each lunch, we can remind CMA team members of the materials we recycle by bringing those materials in to see. As Liza said, “ If we had examples of things, like plastic film off of new cars, a wooden pallet from the parts department, an oil filter, an ink cartridge, and a sign that said, DID YOU KNOW WE RECYCLE THESE, people could see and get that quick visual reminder.” Judi said, “It could be like a trade show set up. A table of information and a nice lunch.”
A National Recycling Day lunch is an excellent idea! Green Team, are you planning this for your dealership? We have two weeks. Let’s start now! It would be fun to photograph our recycling display tables and compare set-ups. There is a good opportunity to get creative, and we can build on this next year.
Another topic discussed at the meeting was materials recycled at some CMA locations but not others and how this can be improved. What additional recycling would you like to see at your dealership? If you were to improve recycling, where would you start? Where’s the low-hanging fruit? There are many possible answers. You may need more frequent service for your cardboard recycling dumpster to keep cardboard from the trash dumpster. Maybe you need a better system for scrap metal recycling, or you’d like to start recycling paper, toner cartridges, wood pallets, or power-tool batteries. We wrapped up our meeting with a round of Recycling Jeopardy. Our host, Judi Anderson, made questions about recycling fun, and Ashley Olson from Martinsburg was our Recycling Jeopardy champion.
