Introducing CMA’s Green Team Advisor, Mike Kruse!

Meet Mike Kruse, one of CMA’s new trusted advisors, and not just any advisor…a GREEN advisor!

As we work to be leaders in sustainability, we are always looking for areas of opportunity. A stand out area for us is recycling and we want to be better. We are extremely fortunate to have Mike join us on a consultant basis. Mike began working with our Charlottesville associates a few months ago, to ensure our efforts on this campus were working. Staunton is next and other markets will follow.

Mike started working with a very small recycling operation, Waste Stream Strategies, in 2002. In 2003, he bought the company for $4,000 and changed the name to Evergreen Recycling. The mission of Evergreen Recycling is to make recycling easy for businesses, offices, schools, and apartments. In 2009, Mike started Evergreen Document Destruction, a document shredding service, which he sold to Iron Mountain in 2019. Mike has worked with twelve employees and hundreds of different businesses. Since its inception in 2003, Evergreen has recycled over four million pounds of materials!

Mike grew up on Long Island New York and developed an interest in the natural world and protecting the environment as a kid. He has worked as a volunteer to protect Virginia’s National Forests from logging projects, has helped set-up a “tree-sit” in a thousand year old redwood (lived in for two years by a young woman named Julia Butterfly), and has assisted Navajo elders fighting to stay on their land.

Mike and his wife Susan live in Charlottesville with their two boys, ages 10 and 14. Mike is also a drummer, and plays in the band Driving Sideways.

Thank you Mike for all you are doing to help CMA become more Green and Sustainable!
