Earlier this month Liza and CMA’s Green Team, led by Judi Anderson, met via zoom. This team of owners is not your average group of tree huggers but a sampling of like-minded individuals that have a common goal of creating and implementing sustainable practices CMA wide.
Last year we started off slow, picking up trash around the stores during breaks and working to eliminate single use plastic water bottles in our stores. Many stores have adopted the habit of recycling aluminum cans as well.
This is not the time to set the cruise control now on these practices. The Green Team compiled a list of actionable items that will soon be a part of every day in any CMA location. Some of these include:

- Making sure that recycle bins are in place in reasonable locations, showrooms, tech breakrooms, etc.
- Meeting with GMs monthly for 30 minutes to collaborate on Green items
- We are working towards finding the best way to eliminating plastic bags in stores and replace them with biodegradable bags that will stand up to the job.
As optimistic as this team is, we know that we will need the help of each and every Owner to make these goals work.
Being a part of the Green team is not all Zoom meetings and picking up litter. We know how to have fun, too! Eco-friendly team building games like Green Jeopardy and Green Bingo are staples of our meetings also.
A friendly competition within the group has been announced: one member of the Green Team will be nominated and voted on at the close of 2023 for their efforts in promoting sustainability. This individual will earn a trip to Nashville’s Hotel One. This lucky hardworking person will be tasked with researching and reporting back on the sustainable practices that set Hotel One apart from other businesses.
Do any of these projects interest you? Have any ideas that you think would move lives forward in a greener way? Want to join CMA’s Green Team?
